Why are all the controls on the Skin page for my Second Life character inactive? They show & make no changes!?

And how do I learn the answers to similar questions? Obviously, I'm totally new at this! Why are all the controls on the Skin page for my Second Life character inactive? They show %26amp; make no changes!?
You're probably wearing a skin that you purchased (or found free). That skin is marked as no-modify so you can't make any changes to it.

I bought Second Life for Dummies at Barnes and Noble. It was actually very helpful. Why are all the controls on the Skin page for my Second Life character inactive? They show %26amp; make no changes!?
Most skins in SL are 'no modify'. You may also find that many purchased shapes are also no modify.

However, there is a nice freebie skin for guys at a place called Belleza. Look for it in search and teleport there. Inside the lobby you will see two boxes just inside the door. One for girls - one for guys. To get it, look above the boxes for the Belleza group sign. Click on it and then open Local Chat and you will find a group link (a bit like a webpage address). Click on that link to open the group page and join the group (it's free). So - with the Belleza group tag showing over your head - right click on the male skin and buy it for L$0. Check in your inventory for the Belleza folder and inside you will see the skin. Wear it. No need to alter it as it's a really nice skin - better than any you will currently have in your inventory.
ur a geek to have second life
